A Coronation Street couple has officially waved goodbye to their relationship following a secret affair that has slowly torn the pair apart.

The Weatherfield duo, who have lasted together through a tragic cancer battle, will sadly part ways after seven years in the shock split.

Fan favourites Abi and Kevin Webster, who are played by Sally Carman-Duttine and Michael Le Vell, have been going through a series of devastating disagreements.

The couple first began dating in 2018, and later wed in 2021, but despite their loved-up history, that hasn’t stopped Abi from having an affair behind-the-scenes.

In scenes this week, Abi was issued with an ultimatum by her sister-in-law, Debbie Webster, who is played by Sue Devaney in thesoap.

It followed the affair with Kevin’s younger brother Carl Webster, Jonathan Howard.

While Abi had been secretly plotting to leave Kevin for his brother, things were complicated when Kevin was diagnosed with cancer, and Abi vowed to support him.

Learning the news that her husband had been given the all-clear, Abi was forced to come clean about wanting to split up when Kevin admitted he’d been planning their future together.

During the conversation, Abi became totally overwhelmed as Kevin went on to suggest they patch things up by getting a dog together, and start fixing cars together to bring them closer.

But nothing Kevin could say or do would stop Abi from walking away.

Unable to pretend any longer, she said: ‘Kev, first the dog, and now this? I am sorry but I can’t do any of it.’

A confused Kevin asked: ‘Why not?’, Abi embarrassingly replied: ‘Because I think we should break up. I am so sorry.’

Shocked by her admission, he continued: ‘I love you, and you love me. There’s no buts, we love each other, that’s all that matters. The rest is just stuff we can work on.’

Before Abi got round to attempting to explain her reasons for wanting to leave, Kevin soon realised it could be Carl who was responsible.

Reassuring him and shutting down the accusations, Abi continued: ‘You’ve got to listen to me, this has got nothing to do with anybody else.’

Later in the episode, Kevin confronted younger brother Carl, who also denied having an affair with his wife, as both hit out that he was trying to find someone to blame.

But Abi was issued an ultimatum to come clean when Debbie caught her sneakily around with a hotel room key, knowing that Kevin wasn’t staying with her.

Debbie threatened to tell Kevin the truth if Abi didn’t come clean, telling her she would have to pack up and move out of No. 13 as quickly as possible.

It’s not yet known whether now that Abi and Kevin have split if she will go ahead and dive into a relationship with Kevin’s brother Carl.

The character doesn’t yet know that her lover has also been romancing James Bailey, played by Nathan Graham, behind her back.

With a potential exit storyline on the cards, Abi actress Sally Carman-Duttine told: ‘I see Corrie in my future and I’m hoping they do.

‘Do you know what? If it was all to end tomorrow, I would literally be going out with the biggest thank-you, because I came in for six episodes and here I am.’
